Boise, Idaho, a growing western metropolitan area in southwest Idaho, is the largest city within a 300-mile radius. Boise is located along the I-84 corridor, connecting Salt Lake City, Utah to Portland, Oregon.

Downtown Boise

Could Boise be the Paris of the West? As spring buds burst on downtown “street trees,” couples walk hand-in-hand under gas lights in the Basque Block, art galleries and boutiques snuggle next to high-rise condos, sidewalk cafes and coffee houses entice workers from nearby offices and far-flung suburbs alike, and music wafts on summer Wednesdays from the “centre de la ville”—the Grove Plaza—where hundreds dance and glance at Alive After Five. Downtown Boise is the dynamic, prosperous and vibrant urban center of the Treasure Valley. It serves as the government, business, cultural and entertainment center for southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon. In total 44,000 people currently work in the downtown. Downtown is hofme to the Idaho State Capitol, the Ada County Courthouse complex and Boise City Hall. The downtown financial community houses regional offices for US Bank, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Key Bank, and Washington Mutual Bank, plus many more local banks and other investment and financial groups.

Downtown Boise development is guided by a proactive mixed-use plan that is coordinated through our urban renewal agency the Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC). Business services, retail shops, restaurants, theaters, art galleries and event facilities are weaved among office buildings, government institutions, historical buildings, residential units, parking and open space—all combining into a rich vertical and horizontal urban texture.

Downtown Boise is flanked to the east and west by the region’s two leading Regional Medical Centers—St. Luke’s and Saint. Alphonsus. Located adjacent to the south of the Central Business Districts sits the campus of Boise State University, the largest university in Idaho with 18,500 students . The North Central Business District is anchored by the Idaho State Capitol with the U.S. Federal office complex nearby.

Convention Center and Community Events

The Grove Plaza is the flagship of downtown Boise. This public-private partnership project resulted in a public plaza and fountain area, designed to host a variety of community events that attract thousands of residents and visitors each year to enjoy live entertainment and family activities. Adjacent to the Grove Plaza is the Boise Centre on the Grove, Boise’s 75,000-foot Convention Center. The Convention Center hosts close to 250,000 event participants each year. Rounding out The Grove plan is the Qwest Arena, a 5,000-seat event center that serves as home for year-round events, from professional sports to the latest touring concert artists.
